Sel Gris Sea Salt (France)

Description

Sel gris, or “gray salt” in French, is coarse, granular and feels wet to the touch.

Sel gris comes from the same solar evaporation salt pans as fleur de sel but is allowed to come into contact with the bottom of the salt pan before being raked, hence its gray color. Sel gris is coarser than fleur de sel but is also a moist salt. WHen used as a finishing salt, it does not tend to pull the moisture off food when used.

Pair sel gris with heartier foods like steak and root vegetables, playing off their mineral complexity.
